I had a nice break this past week

I got to hang out with my only brother who lives in Montana
Matt hasn’t connected with his phone successfully for months now…..
So calling him and checking in while I was gone verbally was a known failure exercise
So I got a true break
Of course, I felt guilty at times but there wasn’t much I could do about it
Matt’s sister Cornelia was with him, as was his usual care team of Nora and Michelle
We worked out each day, something important to both of us at our ages
It was really really good sibling time
I also handed off my childhood collection of Barbies, Skippers and Tina dolls to my grand nieces

close to 20 dolls
With tons of clothes, some made by the manufacturer, some made by very young CJ

I think the hand off to Avery and Katiri was successful
Grandma Jill insisting all dolls and clothes be washed prior to handover
And yeah, that was needed…..they dolls and clothes had been in storage for well over 30 years….traveled west, back east, back west…..in a box
Now they have a new home with some very active and super cute little girls
Being able to be with my bro, to spend quality time with him and his family, recharged me
At the same time, Cornelia got to spend time with her brother, Matt with his sister back here at home
The last few weeks, I think, added up to significant overwhelm for Matt
While Corny reflected that he had good moments of clarity while she was here, Friday, Nora experience perhaps a reflex from it all
They went out for a walk….Matt became somewhat non responsive to direction, somewhat walking comotose
She got him home safely, but it was definitely an off day for him, his stamina severely deminished
Combining it all, Matt’s last week or so was off his usual routine with a lot of great family moments….while that is awesome and we wouldn’t have changed a thing, it adds up
Now that I am back, the house is back to its usual rhythm, Matt is “fluctuating” a bit
Exhibiting behavior that is cra cra making
I will admit, it’s not unexpected, and having had a full break, easier to roll with
What specifically you ask? This am he got into the dog food, poured some liquid into the container we keep Shebas food in, potentially ruining a lot of dog food (which isn’t cheap)
I caught it, separated the wet from dry, and put what was wet in the dehydrator
There was no reason for him to do that…..he’s done that before, wasting a ton of food when it went moldy
He’s relocating furniture, pouring beer in things that doesn’t make sense, destroying any box he can get his hands on
He came to the living room with a bottle of Bactine wound wash, opened it up, began to pour it in my coffee
He doesn’t understand how inappropriate that it, I can’t help but react, to say “no”
Some things I just let go, some I intervene
In the midst of all this, I get some of the moments right, a few wrong, trying desperitely to give myself the grace of being human
At the end of all this, he is just trying to engage with his environment, make sense of it, control some aspect of it
But his tools to do so are compromised, wigged out by Uncle Lewy
It’s Sunday, he’s up, down between the beds, I watch him on the house cameras, making sure he isn’t getting into trouble
I am watching football, still in my PJs at noon, hoping my chances of beating Kayden in fantasy football improve as the day goes on
My team “Niners are Finer” is heavily loaded with 9ers, Kittle, McCaffery, Evans, Deebo Samuels…..
I need my boys to show up and out perform what ESPN thinks they will do
Come in guys, make my day! I need something here!
