Uncle Lewy

Living out loud with Lewy Body Dementia

Donuts in my Voicemail

It’s early, like 6:30 am

I got up at 5:30, couldn’t sleep any longer, the sky was dark, equinox will be soon

I made coffee, grabbed my wake-up mint tea, made my way to my nest in the sunroom

Matt must have heard my russling, he got up about 6 am

Usually he is good till 8 or 8:30

Not today, he was up early

I have mixed feelings about him getting up this early

On the one hand, it’s my time, my quiet

On the other hand, the thought crossed my mind wondering if these might be some of the last days we might be spending as a family together in this place

Our little family, him, me, Sheba

He is padding about, fiddling with this or that thing in the kitchen

He moves to the dining room table where it sounds as if he is having a conversation

Is he conversing with the dog or an imaginary friend?

He currently sits in a camera blind spot, but not far away so if I wanted to get up to look I could

But I don’t want to…..I am feeling the after affects of my workout yesterday in my glutes…..which makes sitting in this position quite favorable to standing and engaging those exercised muscles

He comes into the sunroom, mumbling something

I repeat what he said in question form to make sure I heard him correctly: “You found donuts in your voicemail?”

”Yes” he replied

”Oh, were they good? I have never found donuts in my voicemail before” I replied

”I don’t know” he says, “I couldn’t find them”

And so it goes……
