Thank you all for your comments, experience shares and support as I really begin to lean into the process of figuring out what’s next
Next week I have a consultant who works with families to identify the homes that fit the needs of the loved one needing to be placed
We met her in October 2024 when we came out to house hunt
Back then we toured a few places but it became very clear, there were no places that were a good fit based on where we were at that stage
So we chose the farmhouse and I don’t at all second guess that choice for a minute
Eloise will be coming to visit with us next Wednesday
It’s interesting, this process, what I am learning as I approach it this time
This time I know more, much more, about how this disease is affecting Matt
2 years ago, it was totally different
He could still hike, he wanted to be involved in decisions, he could handle outdoor events, large family gatherings
Now, he retreats when in large groups, does not have the stamina to hike or be in heat, sleeps alot
I do think he is managing some level of delusion almost all the time now, mostly things in his hands he needs to toss in the trash can
So while he stated his preference for the Redwoods, we might ultimately find it’s not the right place for him
I visited there, they manage the memory care a bit more in a standard way with group activities
I am not sure thats going be the right fit now
I did do some research….ok I asked Kathy (ChatGPT)….if there were facilities that specialized in LDB
Interestingly, there might be
The feedback was that one on one relationships, vs group activities, quieter places with not so much noise might be a better call for him
One place that came up on the list was on Sir Francis Drake right in the Kentfield area
When I saw that, my heart warmed because that is the general area Matt grew up and lived, his parents, aunts, uncles, grand parents lived
There is a beautiful essence about returning here, returning to the flora and faunta that is Kentfield
This is just the beginning, we are just scratching the surface, help is coming, much to think about but like most things, I just gotta take one step at a time
