We spent Saturday at home, I watched my paddling colleagues via live stream compete in the Kona race
Then there was the fantasy football draft with my cousins on the east coast
Somewhere in the middle of the day I washed my car in the yard
Matt just piddled, in and out of bed
At then end of the day I wondered about the benefits of structured activity for him
Saturday was completely unstructured and come Saturday evening, he was a real pill
Constantly up messing with something, often in a way that got me out of my chair to intervene
I have gotten more tolerant of the banging that comes from his kitchen activity—measuring cups on the counter, dishes he is washing
But when I see he is trying to open a ceramic coffee cup with a can opener, or trying to pour beer into an electrical socket….I gotta intervene
It can be exhausting—Matt definitely has the Busse busy gene, it’s still strong and active
So Sunday I experimented, planned us a full day activity to see if wearing him out by getting him out of the house would tamp down evening mischief

We got a Zodiak out of Sausalito and road down the Richardson Bay and across to Angle Island
We have taken that boat out before—it’s a ton of fun
So easy to drive and the entire boat is one big fender
When we arrived, the mooring ball field was pretty empty, just a handful of boats swinging about
But that didn’t last long…..as we sat there floating, attached to a mooring ball at the bow, the field filled in
It’s actually good entertainment, watching these different crews, some motley, try to grab a mooring ball, or 2
The skill level definitely varies, hence the entertainment value
There is no correlation between size of crew and competency at grabbing a mooring ball
I would actually say the larger the crew, the more entertainment value there is
Sometimes the combination of expensive boat and large crew enhances the duration of said mooring ball hook up and entertainment value
I mention that because that’s pretty much all we did….watch then inbound boats find their ball
We left Angel and dropped by the Sausalito Yacht Club, a place many memories have been made
Then made our way back to the yacht harbor to return the boat to the club dock
I found myself reaching for Matt’s hand a lot yesterday as we navigated Mollie Stones (grocery store) and especially the docks
His sense of comfort in places he doesn’t frequent has definitely dropped
We stopped by our local market on our way back to the house to get a few essentials
He offered to return the shopping cart, so I let him…but kept an eye on him
He started out in the right direction, then strangely took a right, heading away from the storage rack back into the parking lot
I drove the car over to a spot right up front, on the way to the rack
By then he had made a left hand turn, headed in yet another direction, but not the direction he needed to go to get to the rack
So I got out of the car, encouraged him to do a u-turn with the cart and come towards me
All this and the car engine was running….so he then proceeded to open the drivers door
”Nope, you get in on the other side buddy” (good try!)
The result? He fell asleep on the couch before I had dinner prepared
So this activity line of thinking has merit….it seems to counteract the evening mischief
