Terri came by yesterday, brought a yummy sandwich for Matt
We all sat by the pool and caught up, enjoyed our lunches
At some point, Matt got up, he was a little bit anxious
He made it a handful of steps and the next thing we new, he was down on the ground
He didn’t faint, it was just as if his legs gave out on him, he got lightheaded
I wasn’t watching at the moment, my head turned when he dropped to the ground, umbrella pole in hand
But I think he must have gotten light headed when he stood up
Classic dehydration, classic heat as highest likely suspects here
The pool guy was working the pool, so between Terri, the pool guy and myself, we got Matt up and seated in a chair to rest in the shade
We have been so vigilant about his hydration, this says how fragile that state is
Terri moved him into the house, into the cool and turned on the World Cup
I took the opportunity to go back out to the pool, curl up on the couch to take a rest in the shade of the umbrellas
The last 4 weeks I have really upped my exercise intentions, working out 3 days a week with weights, paddling 2 evenings, hiking with Lori on wednesdays, trying to work in a swim one or 2 days
This week, that got combined with moving EB into her new apartment
So I was super tired yesterday–napping however briefly on that couch by the pool was so inviting, so nice
Matt recovered and later we went out for pizza at the local neighborhood joint
Yes, its a joint, nestled in the woods down the street with tons of character
As I look towards the Fourth of July weekend, I can tell you what we will NOT be doing: we will not be walking long distances in the heat, getting ourselves in the midst of large crowds
I know that’s the thing to do on the 4th, but its not for my guy
We’ll be hanging by the pool, hopefully hearing all about the month in Europe that Cornelia and Jim will have just flown back from
Happy 4th of July everyone, have fun whatever you are doing to celebrate the 250th birthday of our amazing democracy!
