Uncle Lewy

Living out loud with Lewy Body Dementia

Some Activity, Lots of Rest

It seems a new pattern is showing up in our lives

If Matt has a day of activity, the next day is a day of lots of rest

We went to Sausalito Wednesday to over see a bunch of work happening there to the outside area

With all the rain, there was so much overgrowth everywhere in the yard

Eric had dialed us into a great landscape team 4 years ago lead by Mario so we had, geeze, 4 or 5 guys including Mario on site

Lots of things going on including over growth cut back, refreshing of the pathway infrastructures and crushed granite, cutting dead branches away from the carport

The power washer guy came to remove the winter’s mold from the deck railings

We looked at the hardwood flooring and started trying to sort out a solution to some sun damage that was occurring

Decisions being made over here, progress over there, questions, measurements taken, more questions

It was a lot…..

These would have been the things that Matt would have done in his days as a property manager

I am sure he was doing his best to keep up, to come up with helpful suggestions, helpful observations as we moved from this to that

I think he enjoyed being there, being in the midst of it all, but I think it was a lot for his brain to process

When there is some place we need to be before noon, he has to be wrangled out of bed, and I mean wrangled. There is a powerful force that sucks him right back into bed after a valiant attempt to get up

I believe Matt likes his life of slow morning leisure, and he likes our bed!

So he was probably half awake when I was pushing him to get dressed, out the door on the way to Sausalito

Anyway, during our visit to Sausalito, he fell onto the pavers in the parking area

He didn’t get hurt, as he says he “knows how to fall” from years of hiking Mt Tam, but he definitely lost his balance, maybe footing, and fell

This was before having a single beer at lunch

Then after lunch he almost fell again, but I caught him

We came home around 3:30 and he immediately took a nap

The next day, yesterday Thursday, he pretty much napped all day when Nora was here with him

So there seems to be a cycle, a lot of rest follows an activity day

I am good with that, him napping is better than him having serious delusions or rearranging the furniture and all because of anxiousness

Its just our life I guess
