I stood on the bluff and looked down the coast to where we exchanges vows
I could see the stairs we went down
Mind you, these were no sissy stairs
And also know, we had family members in their late 70’s, 80’s and maybe 90’s navigate them
The last 7 feet practically have to be repelled (I exaggerate, but it’s not untrue)
We posted sentries at the base of the stairs in case anyone came to enforce the rules
What rules? The rules you couldn’t have a wedding on the beach
We were crazy
I stood yesterday on the bluff, looking down the coast to that site
I had to pause
Things have certainly changed since then
Matt’s vows included being willing to travel anywhere I dreamed to go
Luckily we did a lot of that
Those days of wonton travel are behind us
We went out to dinner, just the 2 of us last night, to St Orrs
A Sea Ranch tradition for us, a hold back to old ways of doing things
The food didn’t disappoint, as always
The joy of dining out was not the same
Everything about it was fraught with one thing or another for me to manage, for him to possibly resist
I sat across from him knowing this was the last time we’d be here just as a couple
So much has changed in just 16 years
Happy we could, we did
Sad we can’t, we won’t anymore
This is an anniversary like none before
