Normal people go out to dinner sometimes
They clean up a little, dress a bit more freshly, go out to a nice restaurant
We have been avoiding that because Uncle Lewy hasn’t made it easy to enjoy these expensive outings
Yesterday, for dinner, me and my guy went out to dinner
He chose what he wanted to wear, a nice pressed shirt, khaki pants, slip on Izod shoes
I work a nice top, simple skort
Off we went to the Sonoma Grill
They have a Thursday Prime Rib special which I was jonesing for
Matt ordered a New York steak, we shared a bottle of wine
We had a little something to celebrate: I got some good results from some medical tests I’ve been undergoing, it was something to celebrate, a worry checked off the list in the best kind of way
When the food arrived, he tried to cut his stake with his stake knife
It caused the table to appear to be in the midst of an earthquake
I waited a few beats, quite a few beats, let him try, watched the water glasses, wine glasses, making sure things didn’t topple over
Then offered to cut his steak for him, which he accepted
At one point he said “I don’t know what it would be like handling this disease on my own, thank you for all you do for me”
Wow, that one small simple statement, confirmation he is aware of how he is supported, loved, carried in this journey, is profound
I will carry that forward with me in the hard days, it will help keep bounce in my step in the hard days
I can’t find the words to express how nice it was, yesterday, doing something very normal, like normal people

Then, to top the night off, we went to the Sonoma Square and had ice cream
It was a beautiful warm night
As we sat there eating our cones, someone who I’ve known for years through Sausalito walked up and said “is this CJ?”
Come to find out they live maybe a block or 2 away
A beautiful day, a wonderful dinner, with a terrific cherry on top, seeing old friends in a new place!
