After all that has happened the last few weeks, we needed a little normal yesterday
We had nothing on the schedule, totally blank
Matt had a decent night sleep, so did I, after the whole patch thing
He started his day back in his normal way, getting up once or twice in the morning, pretending to get coffee, then migrating back to bed
I thought, maybe we should do one of classic day plans, hike the lake, got to VJB for lunch, yeah, that’s a great plan, it felt so right to me
I had a call with mom, we sorted out her return, talked about our upcoming visit to see her, what was going on in her life right now, how she was feeling, what she was dealing with
About 11:30 am Matt was wandering around so it was time to think about executing our day plan
Crap! I totally forgot to feed him breakfast…..maybe he will eat a banana and then we can just go have a big lunch
Between getting him dressed in something that wasn’t showcasing what he ate the last 2 days and getting the dog into her new fully supportive harness, by the time we were ready to leave the house it was 1:30 pm
“how about we just go to VJB for lunch?” “OK, that sounds good”

VJB has become a very happy place for both of us
For Matt, it has pizza, ribs, is super dog friendly
For me, I love the family atmosphere they create
We go frequent enough I think they know…..you know….that we are going through some sort of journey
We see the same staff and pick up on conversations we had the time before, catch up on their stories
We had our usual lunch, salad and pizza. They, VJB, never fail to deliver great service, great food, smiles, a happy place for us
Sheba, our beautiful aging girl, came along for the ride
It had been several weeks since she got in the car, either she or Matt been confined to limited activity
Since her back injuries were discovered, we hadn’t gotten her to walk up the new extended stepped ramp into the Volvo
So for her, while there was no hike, I think she had success today by getting all the treats offered to coax her up the new car ramp
It was a big day, one other stop to a winery after VJB so I could quit that club, finally. Too many wine clubs…..narrowing it down to those that create happy places for us and supporting only those for now
We got home, and in normal fashion, Matt took a snoozer on the couch
Its nice to have a normal day, whatever normal looks like
