Uncle Lewy

Living out loud with Lewy Body Dementia

Nighttime habits

Ever changing…………

We now have bed rails on both sides of the bed

I have to get used to them too

For some time now, he has been up and down for a portion of the night

Typically its a bathroom destination, some times its a destination in the bedroom only he understands

So far, he falls fast asleep at some point

There are times I give up before I’m out of patience and got to the sunroom

Its super cozy there, I have it all fitted out now

When I wake up, survey the house after a partial sunroom sleep

I find things that clearly went bump in the night

A carpet rolled partially up, the heater return cover partially dismantled

Both of these are potentially dangerous things….luckily no one was hurt

No telling what Matt and Uncle Lewy get up to in the darkness

Last night was a turn of events

I slept in our bed all night

And when I woke up, he wasn’t there

So I went looking for him

Not in the bathroom, nor the sunroom

I sneaked up the stairs to the guest room

Found him!

That was a first, him crawling up there in the middle of the night

The last week or so his wonderings in the middle of the night have gotten more adventurous

Never out of the house, thank God, but more full coverage house wonderings

Tonight both Barb and Mary will be staying over, all the beds will be in use

I will warn them they may have a mid night visitor

I think these sistas can handle it!

Have you considered putting in cameras so you can assess what he’s doing out of your sight? It might help with finding those items he hides or seeing what he’s doing when you are sleeping?

    1. I just retrieved 3 small cameras that we had at the house when we had it listed for sale for remote observation. Its a 2 sided thing, there is good and troubling about having cameras in the house….but I have 2 now. I don’t have capture images so I have to be looking live and I don’t have them on all day. Its helped a little already for me to be able to be watching TV and see what he is doing in the kitchen a little better. Kind of a tough one, balancing privacy in the midst of all this
