Uncle Lewy

Living out loud with Lewy Body Dementia

a very personal journey. Matt, CJ and Sheba….

This started spontaneously, part therapy, part keeping our peeps informed. I am finding my voice, evolving in this. The perspective is very much from my, CJ’s, perspective; the caregiving wife.

It’s never been easy to convince Matt to go shopping with me

You know, mill about, looky here, looky there, girl fun shopping

I do, however, have a great memory of him going with me to Barcelino in Sausalito

He wanted to buy me something special

So we had a bit of a little fashion show in the dressing area

That was fun, the store ladies, probably Bridgette at the time, were so sweet

This year it’s been difficult to create time to Christmas shop

It’s easy to go grocery shopping with him most of the time

He always needs beer (incentive)

He likes to drive the cart (something helpful to do)

On a few of our last grocery trips I stocked up on cookie making ingredients

So while I can’t get out to Christmas shop too much, since Matt sleeps a lot, what I can do is make cookies

Yesterday, while Matt was continuing to sleep, I made some cookies my Mom used to make

Moravian Spice Cookies or sometimes called Molasses Cookies

I used the cookies cutters she used to use

I remember her using the reindeer and star cutters the most

The reindeer cookie cutter is broken, I think it’s been broken 30+ years now

It still works fine if you are gentle with it

As I made them, I could hear her voice “roll the dough thin, really thin” so I did

Matt likes the cookies, and the dough

So if you are get cookies from us, know it was the best we could do this year

They are tasty, filled with love and holiday calories (which don’t count, or so I tell myself)

I love reading about the ways you find to celebrate the wins. Merry Christmas, beloved sister.
