I saw his smile yesterday
Full force, reflecting happy
Eyes bright
Such a salve for my soul
We were dancing towards the end of Elliot’s band set
Everyone who was still there got up and danced by the pool
Matt grabbed both of my hands and wanted to dance face to face
We have always sort of Shagged, a beach version of swing…..called the “swing dance of the south”
Nothing fancy, but holding hands, sometimes turning each other, the arm slide…..
I could tell how Uncle Lewy had taken some, most, of his old dance moves
But he was bouncing, swinging, trying
Smiling
A kind lady who we didn’t know said to him “you dance with fervor”
Matt had the presence of mind to ask “what does that mean?”
With ernest, passion
He smiled brightly, that picture is burned in my memory as if I took a photo
It soooo warmed my heart
He loves being with his family, I know he does
Each one in their own unique way, with their unique gifts, give him something special
In its simplest form, it’s a momentary break from me!
But in there is for sure a sense of normal, shared history, so much kindness
Someone recently said I was putting my life on hold to care for Matt
I ponder that, not convinced I believe that to be true
We are living our life, joined as one in free will on the beach in Sea Ranch October 11, 2019
This is our life
So we live it the very best we can
I have no regrets the hard work and sacrifices made
Yes, there have and will be hard moments, but that is very much part of what living our life to the fullest requires us to punch through
So I, we, strive for more Matt smiles, more dancing, more fervor!
