Living out loud with Lewy Body Dementia

Circadian Rhythms

Its amazing how important these have become lately

An hour difference in the morning to me, even 2 or 3 hours, isn’t that big of a thing

But for Matt, it seems now to make a huge difference

Left to his own rhythms, he seems to like to wake up around 9:30 or 10ish, at the earliest

We want to get him into the Day Club that has “core” hours of 10-4, but the doors are open from 8-6

So I thought we should try to get him there at 9am, to split the difference between when the doors open and when they want everyone to be there, settled in

Lo has been coming at 10 am on her days, so I thought we should change her hours to start at 9am so that he is used to being up and awake at 9am

So Friday, after 2 failed attempts to rally him to go to the Day Club, I asked for some help and Lo came at 8am Friday to help me get him fed and out the door to be there at 9am

That early rise really seemed to have impacted him more than I expected

He definitely seemed more out of it, speech was more slurred, he focused on strange things at times Friday morning

But there could be other factors feeding into this

Mary has been hanging out with us since Tuesday night, that’s been so much fun

He knows her, is comfortable with her, she’s so great with him

We had her, Barb and Debbie over Tuesday night, along with Dolly Pardon, Debbie’s dog

They are all so good with him, I count them amongst my many blessings

So there has been a lot more activity in the house than normal this week

At times it seemed like a good thing, he was distracted, engaged with us all

But now, now that the house is quiet, Mary and EB are gone, the maid has wrapped up her work, the house is quiet

Matt is still in bed, Saturday at 1:45 in the afternoon

I did get him up briefly to eat breakfast and let the maid clean his room…..but then he migrated right back there, its a safe, comfortable place for him

Its so hard to know what to do, I guess we just try our best, hope for the best, correct when experiments don’t pan out…

I keep checking in on him, making sure he is ok, letting him rest, reviving

Excessive daytime sleepiness is more common in Lewy Body Dementia than Alzheimer’s, or so I read on line

We’ll see how today goes….hope for better later today, or tomorrow
