Uncle Lewy

Living out loud with Lewy Body Dementia

a very personal journey. Matt, CJ and Sheba….

This started spontaneously, part therapy, part keeping our peeps informed. I am finding my voice, evolving in this. The perspective is very much from my, CJ’s, perspective; the caregiving wife.

Big shout out to Ken!

Talk about leaning in……

As I was making the decision to bring Courtney into our home, I called Corny and Barb to get their sage input

They’d both stayed in the room, en-suite, upstairs that we would be leasing to her

They suggested that a door for privacy at the top of the stairs would be worth considering

With its own stair case that leads only up to that room, and it’s own bathroom, it generally is private, but they were correct, it’s a bedroom with no door as built

Adding a door would be a good thing, a comforting thing for a young, single lady living with non-family members

So Barb volunteered Ken, her husband, to help with the need

Ken has made custom cabinets for the tech rich and businesses in the Santa Cruz area for over 40 years

I sent him some pictures, measurements

Friday, Barb and Ken came up, door in the back of the truck

We had a great visit, had an excuse to have others come by for some hang time too

By the time they headed back south, the door was installed, a light fixture who’s cord had frayed and shorted had been fixed, measurements taken for a safety fix for the stove, and a cherished cherry tree “cookie” from Virginia was heading for some professional sanding so it could be made into a side table

There are probably other things that got mysteriously and beautifully fixed in those short 24 visit hours

Oh, and Barb wasn’t twiddling her thumbs, she was helping too!

OMG, these where huge huge things that will make life function better than before here

Courtney was elated!

Matt would have, before Uncle Lewy cruelty joined us and took his “figurer outter” away, been able to do these types of things

So it’s such a wonderful gift to have Ken lean in with his skills, which took the result to a totally professional level

It’s the village thing he says, we all have our special ways to help

I effuse gratefulness, communicate thankfulness, work on my ability to graciously receive…..
