Uncle Lewy

Living out loud with Lewy Body Dementia

a very personal journey. Matt, CJ and Sheba….

This started spontaneously, part therapy, part keeping our peeps informed. I am finding my voice, evolving in this. The perspective is very much from my, CJ’s, perspective; the caregiving wife.

disrupted processing

In LBD, the brain’s visual processing systems which receive sensory information, and the recognition system, which interprets that information, are both affected. This can lead to misinterpretation of what is seen, heard or even felt.

Yesterday morning, after I took an early work call upstairs, Matt came up and asked if they were taking him away today

”They” are the cops; “away” is jail

This is a recurring theme

I often wonder if this particular delusion is triggered by work calls, there is some consistency

So I thought I would get clinical, look up things on the web (checking the authenticity of the source of course)

The quote above is one I found

It seems that when I am having a perfectly legit business call, his brain may actually be telling him something else is going on

The words I actually say isn’t what makes it thru to his understanding

Somewhere in the middle between his ears and brain, there is a game of telephone tag going on

So I started the first whisper……then I get to be told the last one

Maybe if I think of it as the child’s game of telephone then I can find humor in this

Worth a shot!
